Impact Grant 2019

Impact Grant 2019

The 2019 Impact Grant: PTSD Student Veterans’ Fly Fishing and Fly-tying Project has just been completed for this year.  The project which was initiated by Elk members Steve Meier, Jess Caudillo, Curt Neely, and George Paris is in its fifth year.  Four of those years were funded by the Elks National Foundation in the amount of about $20,000, the fifth year was funded by both the Idaho Elks Veterans Committee and Cabela’s.  The project has served over 100 student veterans from both U of I and WSU. The mission of the project is to provide a relaxing and lifelong hobby by providing the skills and equipment to learn how to fly fish and tie flies. The project is staffed by expert volunteers from the Clearwater Fly Casters club and lodge Elk members.  We meet once a week at the lodge over a course of twelve weeks to cast and tie.  The project is always capped off by a weekend of fishing at a local spot to enjoy what the class has learned.  The 2019 project has finished for this year; however, the grant will be reapplied for and with the continued support of all involved will continue to support a very worthwhile cause.
